Q: Since fall is the peak season for deer-car crashes, what are ways I can lessen an unplanned meeting with a deer, moose or elk when I’m behind the wheel of a car?

A: • Be aware of your surroundings. Pay attention to “deer crossing” signs. Look well down the road and far off to each side. At night, use your high beams if possible to illuminate the road’s edges. Be especially watchful in areas near woods and water. If you see one deer, there may be several others nearby.

• Be particularly alert at dusk and dawn, when these animals venture our to feed.

• If you see a deer, moose or elk on or near the roadway and think you have time to avoid hitting it, reduce your speed, tap your brakes to warn other drivers and sound your horn. Deer tend to fixate on headlights, so flashing them may cause the animal to move. If there’s no vehicle close behind you, brake hard.

• If a collision seems inevitable, don’t swerve to avoid the animal; your risk of injury may be greater. Hit it, control the vehicle and call the police.

Q: I’m considering Long Term Care Insurance, what are the chances that I will need this protection?

A: Statistics released by the Health Insurance Association of America say that after age 65, Americans have more than a 70 percent chance of needing some form of long-term care, whether it’s an aide coming to their home, a stay in an assisted care facility or an extended stay in a nursing home. Younger people may also need long-term care if they’ve had a stroke, for example, or been in an accident. In any event, with nursing home care averaging $56,000 a year in the U.S., it’s worth the time to consider whether Long Term Care Insurance might be a good fit for you. Call us today at 344-8444 for an appointment.

Q: It's my understanding that long-term care expenses are covered by my health insurance and then later by Medicare... do I really need Long-Term Care Insurance (LTCI)?

A: The need for LTCI is an issue that each person should consider based on their individual circumstances. However, it is important to note that many Americans have serious misconceptions about how these expenses are covered. Consider the following:

   · Most group and individual health insurance offers NO coverage for LTC expenses.

   · Medicare only covers LTC expenses for a short time and only after someone is released from the hospital

   · Medicaid coverage is only available after someone's financial resources are exhausted.

Given the high cost of home health care and nursing home care, it's dangerous to assume you're covered, when that may simply NOT be the case! Please give me a call TODAY for a FREE, personal review.

Q: I have dreams of starting a small business, what insurance will I need?

    · General Liability. - protects the business if it is found to be responsible for injuries to a customer or visitor.

    · Workers Comp - provides help if an employee is injured while in the scope of employment.

    · Building and Contents Coverage - provides protection for accidental direct physical loss to your business location and its contents.

If you are a small business owner or considering the starting of a new business, please give me a call to discuss your specific needs.
