Q:
Does insurance pay for diabetic shoes?A:
In most cases, yes. Medicare has a program that will pay for shoes and inserts as a preventative measure for the diabetic population. Many other insurance companies will pay for these items as long as the individual is being treated for diabetes. Infact, some companies may cover the cost of footwear for those persons with other types of vascular problems. Our company offers a complementary evaluation by a professional to determine the best style of footwear that will fit your needs.Q:
I currently have a prosthesis but it is very painful to wear. Is this normal?A:
No, this is not normal. A prosthesis should fit snugly for optimal function but should never be painful. With today's new technology, liners of silicone or curathane provide cushioning and shock absorbing features to enhance comfort. Lightweight "state of the art" prosthesis feet also reduce the stresses placed on the limb while providing a more natural walking pattern. Our patients are scheduled frequent follow-up appointments to ensure a comfortable fitting prosthesis at no cost to them or their insurance.
